The rightto decide.

A Brotherhood Against Totalitarian Enactments. Fighting anti-bike legislation and promoting fair motorcycle legislation, with a voice in Olympia. Anyone can join, rider or not.

Where ABATE stands

“ABATE does not advocate that you ride without a helmet when the law is repealed, only that you have the right to decide.”

The road so far

  1. c. 1975

    A clubhouse beginning

Around 1975, ABATE came to Washington through a motorcycle club's clubhouse, then spread to independent riders and other clubs.

  2. Jan 1979

    Super Bowl Sunday, Federal Way

At a meeting at the Sherwood Inn, members decided to become ABATE of Washington, incorporate, and run as a chapter organization.

    The official birthday

ABATE of Washington became a 501(c)(4) not-for-profit motorcycle rights organization.

  4. 1980

    Rules of the road

ABATE of Washington hired a lawyer to help create its bylaws and policies, virtually the same ones used today.
